Once I started reading "The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up," I decided to find an answer once and for all. I did a Google search for "organizations that accept ratty clothing" and, to my delight, found out from Earth911 that Goodwill accepts our rags!
It's possible that other organizations do too, but Earth911's article only specified Goodwill. I got the impression some other organizations might accept unwearable clothing, but only Goodwill was specified, so contact an organization to find out its policies before donating your grungiest garments.
To find a donation location, visit Goodwill's locator here:
www.goodwill.org/locator/
Oddly, Goodwill didn't include the street number of the donation site closest to me. It did include a link to the Facebook page and that allowed me to ask for the street number. I received a prompt response. There's no way I would have found it without that information. Hopefully, that was an anomaly and you'll easily find the full address of your nearest location.
Isn't it nice to know you can now discard with a clear conscience?
Happy discarding!
